The Associate Project Manager position at Austin Energy is a temporary role focused on supporting the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport's expansion and sustainability initiatives. The role involves assisting project managers and construction teams in implementing green building practices and ensuring compliance with sustainability standards. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to adapt to changing project needs while managing multiple tasks effectively.

  • Manages and coordinates projects and activities between members of the management team, various departments, public agencies, and/or private sector representatives.
  • Develops methods, procedures, and quality objectives including metrics for assessing progress; utilizes established project standards, procedures, and quality objectives.
  • Develops detailed project plans and schedules, monitors progress, analyzes information and reports, and revises the schedule as necessary.
  • Assists or leads in the management of the selection process and administers consultant services, including negotiating contract terms and fees.
  • Conducts project kickoff meetings, communicates roles and project expectations, and ensures project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.
  • Provides work direction and leadership to assigned projects including scheduling, assignment of work, and review of project efforts.
  • Monitors project milestones and critical dates to identify potential risks to project schedule; identifies ways to resolve schedule issues.
  • Manages, monitors, and reviews contracts and contractors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Assesses variances from the project plans; gathers metrics and develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope and is within time, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to City management, field personnel, contractors, etc.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or major coursework in project management, plus four (4) years of related work experience; OR graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college or university, plus six (6) years of related work experience.
  • Experience leading projects to earn LEED certification and/or Austin Energy Green Building ratings.
  • Experience reading and developing building plans and specifications and navigating complex active construction sites.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing short and long term strategic plans and initiatives for sustainability and green building.
  • Experience operating and maintaining green buildings or energy systems, post construction to maximize occupant satisfaction while reducing overall resource consumption.
  • LEED Accredited Professional for Building Design and Construction, also of interest: ENVSP, CEM, PMP, WELL AP, TRUE Advisor or SITES AP or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work sites as part of regular job duties.
  • Pay range of $35.50 - $45.27 per hour
