The Breakdown: Technical Designers collaborate with the Creative, Development, and Asia Merchandising teams to develop garments from initial concept through production. Technical Designers are responsible for interpreting sketches and providing technical recommendations while engineering optimal patterns and specifications to achieve design concepts and meet product brief deliverables. Technical Designers are encouraged to stay abreast of market trends, research new technologies, and create forward-thinking concepts to fulfill current or future consumer needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Patternmaking, Apparel Production, or related.
• 3+ years' experience in technical design, patternmaking, and fitting.
• Knowledge of blocks, grading, construction, and garment manufacturing.
• Experience using PLM and 2D/3D patternmaking software; CLO 3D software knowledge preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator.
• An aesthetic sense and an eye for proportion and scale.
• Experience interpreting design intent and offering solutions while maintaining a consumer-centric point of view.
• Ability to manage multiple projects while shifting priorities to support Technical Design and Innovation team deliverables.
• Keen attention to accuracy and detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and timely follow-through.
• Ability to cultivate respectful team and cross-functional relationships through problem-solving and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Use your technical expertise to design and engineer innovative concepts and styles.
• Maintain fit standards from initial concept through production, utilizing block patterns and standard fit forms to ensure consistency.
• Draft and edit digital patterns to build garment blocks, virtual prototypes, and digital assets in CLO 3D software.
• Create, update, and maintain accurate measurement specifications and fit comments in Centric PLM.
• Measure and evaluate proto samples prior to fitting to determine spec compliance and fit accuracy.
• Conduct initial fit reviews with design and development on forms and/or virtually in CLO.
• Lead fit sessions on live models to test garment range of motion and function based on intended end use; demonstrate to cross-functional partners how to achieve the desired aesthetic and function through pattern and/or measurement updates.
• Adjust patterns and measurement specs to resolve fit issues and reflect updates made during design reviews and fittings. Communicate pattern and spec revisions to vendors.
• Review grading and ensure proportions are maintained throughout the size range; make necessary adjustments and provide graded measurement specs upon fit approval.
• Track and manage workflow to meet seasonal calendar milestones.

Benefits

• The hiring range for this role is $35-$40 an hour, depending on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, and available budget.
