Temporary Position A standardized patient is a person trained to portray a realistic patient, a family member, or another individual to accurately and consistently recreate a scenario. SPs are trained to give feedback to the students in the patient's voice. Standardized patients assume a wide variety of roles, working with a diverse range of medical professionals. These roles help students learn history taking and communication skills. The scenarios provide a safe environment to work through emotional situations. SPs are also trained to assist in teaching physical examination skills. Everything from taking blood pressure to gynecological exams. Working with both students and residents, the SPs are an invaluable part of their education. Helping them hone their skills in a safe and supportive way. Basic- this level is for new SPs. This is their training level. The SP's role is to be the patient in interview situations. They train and participate in one-on-one interviews with students. Their responsibilities include memorizing the case, performing the case according to specific instructions, and then providing specific, observable feedback to students. Several benchmarks must be achieved before moving on to interview status. This is for GTA/MUTA - stands for Gynecological Teaching Associate and Male Urological Teaching Associate- men and women who participate in intimate exams.
