About The Position

The Earth and Planetary Sciences department at the University of New Mexico (UNM) anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teach courses in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to the subject areas covered in the following UNM course: ENVS 423L/522 Water in the Earth System/Physical Hydrology and GEOL 2110C Historical Geology. The Earth and Planetary Sciences department is seeking qualified temporary part time faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes in various disciplines as specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the Director of the program. Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, courses on the current course schedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the Earth and Planetary Sciences department.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or higher in Geosciences/Geophysics/Earth and Environmental Sciences or related field
  • Must meet Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty

Nice To Haves

  • Two years professional experience in the specialization or subfield
  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Successful experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such as Face-to-Face, Remote, and Fully Online)
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
