About The Position

Join us at the forefront of creating unforgettable outdoor experiences while honing skills and expertise in park management. As a Temp I Park Superintendent at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, this position provides an opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in managing one of the state’s most beloved parks. You’ll play an active role in overseeing a variety of park activities, maintaining facilities, managing a security team, and performing administrative duties, all while working alongside a dedicated and experienced team. This role is designed to provide you with the tools, knowledge, and experience needed to thrive in outdoor recreation management. You will engage in tasks across a wide range of areas such as seasonal park amenities, event coordination, maintenance, staff management, and much more. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year related experience.
  • Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to plan, manage, analyze, and evaluate park maintenance
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and application of park maintenance and conservation
  • Ability to learn departmental rules and regulations
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain community relations
  • Ability to supervise, train staff, enforce park rules and regulations, and provide exceptional customer service
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and Management of Seasonal Park Activities, Amenities, and Events: Assist in managing family-friendly activities like the family aquatic center, concessions, marina, ice cream parlor, paddleboat rentals, mini golf, ice rink, indoor playground, indoor rock-climbing wall, and melodrama theatre. Also assist in the preparation, set-up, tear down, and coordination of events hosted by the park or external entities.
  • Maintenance-Oriented Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience in routine cabin maintenance, facilities upkeep, equipment operation, housekeeping, groundskeeping, horticulture, and campground maintenance and improvements. You will also perform activity repairs, maintain park infrastructure, and maintain walkways and trails, ensuring the park’s infrastructure remains in excellent condition.
  • Security Team Management: Oversee and manage the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Security team, coordinating team scheduling, staffing, and training to ensure safety and ensure our customers' needs are addressed.
  • Administrative Duties: Engage in various administrative tasks such as preparing reports, data collection, and permit sales to ensure a seamless visitor experience. Responsibilities also include ordering supplies and collecting bids for park projects.
  • Supervision and Coordination: Supervise, train, hire, onboard, and manage seasonal staff to ensure smooth park operations, compliance, and excellent customer service.
  • Collaboration and Outreach: Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, and engage in community outreach to promote park activities and ensure positive relations with visitors.
  • Park Improvement Projects: Serve as the point of contact for park improvement projects and improvements, ensuring effective communication and project execution.
