About The Position

Under the direction of the Fort Kearny Park Superintendent, the Temporary Park Superintendent, I will carry out a management program for the Kearney Outdoor Education Complex, which includes administrative support, interpretation and visitor services, maintenance, cultural and natural resource management, and visitor protection. The incumbent will supervise and carry out various park operating tasks involved in shooting sports, operation and maintenance, to include the following: Division and area promotion; traffic control; area patrol and foster compliance of park rules and regulations; fire suppression; equipment, grounds and facility maintenance and repair; and, the operation of machinery, equipment and tools in performance of duties. The incumbent will also hire, train, and supervise a seasonal workforce, ensuring equal opportunity for all employees supervised; coordinate park safety programs; prepare budget requests for park expenditures and the purchase of supplies and equipment; maintain records and prepare appropriate reports; collect fees, account for, and deposit them. Some travel. Superintendent may reside in housing provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year related experience.
  • Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Driver's license is required.
  • Ability to plan, manage, analyze, and evaluate park programs.
  • Knowledge of park and cultural resources management and conservation principles, techniques, and applications.
  • Knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain community and public relations with business, special interest groups, and state, local, and federal agencies.
  • Knowledge of shooting sports operations, park operations, administration, and financial management.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate staff and to enforce park rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
