GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Substitute Counselor supports campus counseling functions during the temporary absence or vacancy of the assigned Counselor. This role assists students, parents, and campus staff with graduation-related processes, scheduling support, and student guidance activities in a manner that promotes student success and continuity of services. QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (required) Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff in a professional and courteous manner Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information Experience working in an educational setting or with at-risk populations preferred, but not required Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district may find appropriate and acceptable ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides temporary counseling support under the direction of the Principal and/or Counselor Coordinator Assists students and parents with course selection and graduation-related questions Supports the maintenance and confidentiality of student records Assists with student scheduling, schedule changes, and transcript updates as directed Supports preparation and updates of Individual Graduation Plans under supervision Works with students individually or in small groups to address academic or attendance-related concerns Assists with coordination of testing-related activities as assigned Supports parent-student conferences when requested Assists with dissemination of postsecondary, career, and military information as directed Refers students to appropriate campus or community resources when needs exceed the scope of the substitute role Attends campus meetings or trainings as requested and appropriate to the assignment Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, Counselor Coordinator, or Superintendent in support of campus operations
