The Triage RN is expected to provide rapid assessment of the chief complaint supplied by the parent & provide early recognition of potentially life-threatening symptoms requiring EMS assistance. The triage nurse must be able to accurately define the symptom of concern & choose the appropriate guideline. The triage nurse must use critical thinking, in combination with the pediatric guidelines, to determine the direction of the child's care. The triage nurse must be able to provide direction in a clear, calm & concise manner & have the ability to work independently, when required. The triage nurse must be able to document accurately & completely, using the preformatted assessment screen. The triage nurse will maintain quality-assurance checks bi-monthly to ensure compliance with documentation standards. The triage nurse will assist in the training & development of new hire, registered nurses. The triage nurse will maintain productivity standards as defined by the policies & procedures in the unit.
