THE POSITION: The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a part-time Telephone Operator to join our team. POSITION SPECIFICS: Schedule: Part-Time (16 Hour), Second Shift (4:00 P.M. - 12:00 A.M.) Week 1 ON: Friday/Tuesday Week 2 ON: Saturday/Sunday Facility: Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) Address: 34 Park Street, New Haven PCN: 26499 Please Note: This position is also eligible for weekend and shift differential. Requirements

Knowledge of and ability to operate a PBX telephone switchboard, desk console, or other electronic telephone system
interpersonal skills
oral and written communication skills
clerical skills
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly in accordance with acceptable English usage
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to utilize computer software
Six (6) months of experience in the operation of electronic telephone systems or as a PBX or telephone company operator.

Nice To Haves

Experience using electronic telephone system and operator functions.
Experience using 2-way radios.
Experience handling emergency situations and difficult calls.
Experience in data entry.

Responsibilities

Serves as a central answering point for incoming calls
Determines caller's needs and transfers caller to appropriate extension
Answers telephone inquiries and provides general information regarding activities of the agency
Receives and announces visitors and directs them to their destinations
Uses telephone to locate persons
Performs general clerical duties such as typing, filing, distribution, and processing of mail, receiving deliveries, etc.
May staff communications center for agency
May train relief operators
Performs related duties as required
