About The Position

This position is for a Medical Technologist within the Federal service, specifically targeting candidates who meet the educational and experience requirements outlined in the job description. The role involves performing various laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring quality control, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position, which includes both paid and unpaid experiences such as volunteer work. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by NAACLS.
  • Five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.
  • Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body.
  • Experience or graduate education in the general field of medical technology or a directly related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house.
  • Teaching, test development, or medical research program experience.
  • Clinical laboratory intern experience in an accredited education program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technologist in preparing reagents.
  • Assist with performance of routine laboratory tests.
  • Follow procedures to ensure quality control.
  • Use basic laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Perform procedures of a routine and complex nature in all clinical laboratory sections.
  • Standardize and/or calibrate section instruments.
  • Prepare reagents and controls.
  • Maintain quality control.
  • Perform analysis which is reviewed by senior staff.
  • Provide training to junior and generalist technologists.
  • Confer with attending physicians on complicated patient testing and diagnostic problems.
