The position is responsible for supervising assigned staff in accordance with their job descriptions, ensuring a high standard of work, and providing timely and accurate reporting on all shifts. The supervisor must remain aware of accrediting agency requirements and maintain manuals, logs, and other documents to meet these standards. Additionally, the role involves implementing fire and safety regulations, aiding in the development and implementation of policies related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control, and managing the handling and disposal of hazardous materials within their section. The supervisor is expected to show leadership, delegate responsibilities, establish accountability among staff, and encourage continuing education. Responsibilities also include performing regular inservices, orienting new staff, conducting annual evaluations, preparing work schedules, and maintaining inventory and staffing within budgetary limitations. The supervisor may be required to perform bench work as needed and supervise the entire laboratory on rotating weekends and holidays, attend laboratory-related committee meetings, and perform other duties as required by the Laboratory Manager.
