About The Position

It's more than a career, it's a calling. The position is located at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, where the worker type is regular. The starting rate is $18+ per hour, based on experience and internal equity. The job involves working 20 hours per week during the evenings. The primary responsibility is to ensure continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms by observing cardiac monitors and maintaining all records and reports of rhythm strips in accordance with established nursing standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • No experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee medical equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and auditory signals in a high-noise environment.
  • Answer incoming calls professionally and efficiently, providing accurate information and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Assist in preparing discharge documentation and coordinating logistics, ensuring timely and accurate processing without direct patient care responsibilities.
  • Run strip at time of admission, every 4 hours, and with any rhythm change.
  • Measure PR, QRS, and QT and interpret rhythm accurately when a strip is run.
  • Sign each strip with first initial, full last name and position.
  • Complete rhythm verification form to appropriate unit in a timely manner.
  • Post strips on telemetry log for all units.
  • Notify appropriate unit and staff for any changes in baseline rhythm, including heart rate, or potentially lethal rhythms in adults or children according to protocol.
  • Ensure that alarms are on at all times and set at appropriate limits for adults and children according to protocol.
  • Notify appropriate staff when electrodes or batteries need to be checked, replaced or changed.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the effect certain procedures or medications have on a patient’s rhythm.
  • Run continuous strip for sustained VT, V-fib, asystole and bradycardia less than 40 per minute until code team arrives or otherwise notified.
  • Maintain telemetry logs, current patient information, do transmitter/SPO2 inventory per shift, and telemetry charges.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
