About The Position

The Telemetry Technician is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This position is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides Registered Nurses and /or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. This position is required to perform Unit Secretary duties for the unit as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year acute care experience as a telemetry technician or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school preferred.
• Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred.
• Proficient in medical terminology
• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred
• Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card
• Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia course or successful passing of hospital specific Basic Dysrhythmia Exam

Responsibilities

• Prioritizes workload effectively.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
• Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
• Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
• Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
• Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
• Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.
• Maintains ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms.
• Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry Unit.
• Maintains cleanliness & battery maintenance of telemetry boxes.
• Notifies clinicians of rate/rhythm changes.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.
