About The Position

Iberia Medical Center (IMC) in New Iberia, LA is seeking a Telemetry Tech PRN. IMC is a hospital that has been caring for its community for over 60 years, offering diverse career paths and opportunities for new employees to learn and grow. The Telemetry Technician, under the general supervision of the Unit Director and with the authority of the Director of Nursing, is responsible for monitoring the cardiac rhythms of patients in the CCU and other hospital floors/departments. This role requires demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret cardiac monitors based on related criteria for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Able to pass the pre-employment EKG interpretation exam with a minimum score of 80% (if EKG Course is waived)
  • Basic EKG rhythm interpretation necessary
  • Computer knowledge helpful for order entry into computer
  • A certain degree of creative thinking and judgement, since decisions will have to be made on a variety of different patient EKG recordings

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the cardiac rhythms of patients in CCU and the other floors/departments
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to interpret the monitors based on related criteria for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population
  • Notifies nurses of the potential need for initiating immediate measures to counteract an unfavorable condition
  • Demonstrates respect for patients and families
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care
  • With the patient and family, systematically and continually assesses the patient’s health
  • Applies the nursing process to each patient and implements nursing actions
  • Identifies patient and family education needs and in collaboration with other disciplines initiates’ education needs according to the age of the patient
  • Assesses, collaborates and coordinates in planning of patient’s discharge needs and readiness for discharge
  • Participates in departmental and hospital improvement plan
  • Functions as a positive role model for peers and promotes a professional image of Iberia Medical Center
  • Maintains confidentiality, security, and integrity of patient and organizational data
  • Consistently lives by Iberia Medical Center’s Standards of Performance
  • Adheres to the Patient Safety Goals
