To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system. This role involves operating and troubleshooting all functions of the telemetry monitoring system, including admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, entering required information, adjusting alarms, and reviewing trends. The tech is responsible for cleaning and maintaining telemetry monitors/holders, accounting for monitors, and ordering monitoring supplies. Key duties include obtaining and documenting rhythm strips, maintaining a log book for monitored patients, and providing precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on the electrocardiographic Central Station. This involves interpreting EKG rhythms, recognizing significant EKG events, and communicating information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame, immediately reporting significant or life-threatening changes to a Registered Nurse. The position also participates in orienting and teaching nursing staff, physicians, and students on monitoring equipment, assists with unit equipment maintenance, and performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio-defibrillators. Maintaining a safe environment, ensuring equipment inspections, reporting malfunctions, providing age-appropriate interaction and care, using aseptic techniques and infection control measures, recognizing patient care priorities, respecting patient/family rights, practicing positive guest and peer relations, participating in quality improvement activities, demonstrating acceptable productivity, practicing cost containment, functioning as an interdependent team member, and promoting self and others' development while adhering to internal controls are also essential functions.
