Duties: All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise Observes monitors as directed by assigned Registered Nurse; Reports alarms to appropriate RN immediately. Mounts and labels monitor strips of patient's rhythm and places on chart. Answers and makes telephone calls to/from physicians, admitting, other hospitals or inter department as requested; relays messages-to nursing staff and physicians, as indicated. Answers patient call lights; takes and relays messages to patient, physicians, nursing staff and other employees; pages employees and physicians; keeps the unit manager, charge nurse, or supervisor informed of existing or potential problems. Gathers, prepares and/or checks file charts, records, and other documents and performs all other clerical tasks necessary for the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients in the nursing unit. Notifies appropriate parties such as admitting, housekeeping, etc., of actions taken. Maintain nurses' station including stocking appropriate supplies, unpacking, and placing supply orders in the correct location, and obtaining manager signature on purchase requisitions; assists in maintaining care areas during slow times. Receives and directs visitors using customer service principles and provides them with routine information regarding the hospital and unit's policies and procedures. Accurately and timely transcribes physician's orders into computer and unit records. Other duties as assigned.
