The Telemedicine-ICU RN role is responsible for providing consultative patient care nursing services through the centralized Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) Virtual Health Network. This network focuses on delivering virtual remote care to patients in intensive care units (ICU), other inpatient care units, and/or other CommonSpirit Health markets. Working from a centralized command center, the incumbent collaborates with the Tele-ICU team and an interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers to achieve clinical objectives, maintain quality/customer service standards, and improve patient care outcomes. Nursing services extend to CommonSpirit markets in states outside Washington, requiring the procurement of current RN licensure in those states. The work adheres to VMFH-FH policies, regulatory requirements, and the nursing scope of practice, with a strong emphasis on patient safety. The role involves continuous interaction with physicians, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff, and management. The incumbent is accountable for the quality of patient care, with authority to direct care, provide education, seek unit/department resources, and delegate tasks. The position requires applying judgment and critical thinking skills for patient care recommendations and decisions within the scope of practice, integrating available standards, resources, and data, and efficiently utilizing staff and resources.

Requirements

  • Associate Of Nursing required or Bachelors Of Nursing or other healthcare-related discipline, graduation from an accredited school of nursing upon hire or An equivalent combination of additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree required
  • Depending on assignment, current RN licensure in one or more states outside Washington State will be required within six months of date of hire (6 months)
  • Three years of related work experience that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities required
  • Work experience in an intensive care unit setting required
  • Registered Nurse: WA (RN:WA) required
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required

Nice To Haves

  • Critical Care RN With Tele-Icu Specialty (CCRN-E) preferred
  • Certified Neuroscience RN (CNRN) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative patient care nursing services via the centralized Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) Virtual Health Network.
  • Focus on the provision of virtual remote care for patients in intensive care units (ICU), other inpatient care units and/or other CommonSpirit Health markets.
  • Work collaboratively with the Tele-ICU and an interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers to facilitate achievement of clinical objectives, quality/customer service standards and improvement of patient care outcomes.
  • Procure current RN licensure in states outside Washington State where nursing services are extended.
  • Conduct work in accordance with VMFH-FH policies, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession, with a strong focus on patient safety.
  • Maintain continuous contact with physicians, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff and management.
  • Be accountable for the quality of care provided to patients.
  • Direct care, provide education, seek resources at the unit/department level, and delegate appropriate tasks.
  • Collaborate with patients, families and on-site healthcare providers in developing/implementing/assessing the patient's plan of care and appropriate nursing interventions for optimal patient care/safety.
  • Monitor electronic systems/equipment to identify variations from standard norms relating to patient care/status.
  • Provide education/guidance on best practice intensive care nursing and ensure that providers are following established patient care procedures and documentation standards.
  • Perform work in accordance with standards of safety and care that provide instruction/guidance for taking care of issues and patient needs in the absence of a physician.
  • Apply judgment and critical thinking skills in making recommendations/decisions regarding patient care (within the scope of practice), including knowledge and integration of available standards, resources and data, and in the efficient utilization of staff/resources.
