About The Position

The primary role is to assist the remote Optometrist (OD) with eye examinations to include conducting pre-testing and specialized tests utilizing telehealth-related equipment and instruments. Guide patients through the eye care and clinical journey and maintain the doctor’s appointment schedule.

Requirements

• One to two years of experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing medications or treatments prescribed by a remote provider
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment
• High level of personal and professional integrity demonstrated through words and actions
• Working knowledge of MS Office package
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries
• Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills
• Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs
• Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Serve as a chairside advocate and liaison between patients and telemedicine remote ODs, guiding the patient through the telehealth exam experience
• Conduct pretesting and explain each step of the process as well as which instruments are used and why each test is necessary
• Hand off the patient to the optician and explain the remote doctor’s recommendations for glasses or contact lenses
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients
• Complete pre-appointment confirmation, contact patients from the recall listing, and call all no-show or cancelled appointments to reschedule
• Instruct patients on medical care as prescribed by the doctor’s treatment plan; schedule follow-up appointments if needed
• Participate in the practice’s team meetings and projects as requested and align on patient experience goals/KPIs with the practice
• Perform operational activities to support the practice including restocking inventory, cleaning equipment, and answering phones
• Complete other duties as assigned within the practice
