About The Position

The Group Facilitator, under the supervision of the Program Manager, is responsible for facilitating various classes, utilizing and developing curriculum, and community engagement for The Haven. The Haven endorses a trauma-informed care approach and a medical model of SUD treatment.

Requirements

  • Must qualify as a Group Facilitator III, II, or I (see below)
  • Must have knowledge of adult learning styles.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to envision and create programming that is appropriate and beneficial to members and employees while being efficient and effective.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication and relationship building.
  • Must demonstrate effective project management abilities.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in Southern Arizona’s community-based behavioral health, justice, and child welfare/safety systems.
  • Must have knowledge of substance abuse and the dynamics of abuse/addictive behaviors and how to identify and refer people to various levels of care, as indicated.
  • Must have knowledge of curriculum development and adaptation.
  • Must have a basic understanding of research and evaluation methodologies.
  • Must have familiarity with people and practices within various ethnic and cultural groups
  • Must possess effective time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Must possess the ability to work well with others.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and organizational skills.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to compose and proofread written materials.
  • Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age upon hire.
  • A valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required.
  • Must have an Arizona Non-IVP Level-1 Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it during employment.
  • Must have current CPR and First Aide Certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be certified as a Peer and Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)
  • Proficiency in using HIPAA-compliant telehealth technology, electronic health records, and virtual communication tools.
  • Ability to effectively engage and manage groups in a virtual environment, including recognizing non-verbal cues and maintaining group cohesion remotely.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to assist participants with basic access or connectivity issues.
  • Ability to assess safety and respond appropriately to clinical concerns during telehealth sessions, following established escalation protocols.
  • Must have HS Diploma/GED and 2 years of behavioral health experience OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in any field of study and 1 year of behavioral health experience
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health field OR
  • A master’s degree in any field of study and 1 year of behavioral health experience
  • Must have a master’s degree or higher in a behavioral health field OR
  • A PhD (or equivalent) in any field of study and 1 year of behavioral health experience OR
  • Possess a license obtained through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (LPC, LAC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, or AMFT preferred).
  • Must be certified as a Peer and Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year experience facilitating clinical or psychoeducational groups via telehealth or other virtual service delivery platforms preferred
  • At least two years personal or professional experience living or working in one of Arizona’s Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and awareness of relevant Indigenous culture, history and contemporary issues.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes and develops curriculum for psychoeducation groups.
  • Coordinates and participates in the planning and facilitation of internal and external member engagement activities.
  • Works with clinical staff to provide support, information, and suggestions on individual members’ needs or concerns.
  • Collaborates with treatment teams and/or Program Manager to identify and complete tasks that provide program support and help members achieve treatment plan.
  • Evaluates initiatives and provides feedback to clinical staff and other stakeholders on progress.
  • Works to strengthen positive, effective relationships among members throughout Residential, Outpatient, and/or Native Ways programs.
  • Participates in community outreach by collaborating with community agencies to assist members with various needs.
  • Conducts speaking engagements and workshops on SUD-related issues as part of The Haven’s community outreach strategies.
  • Documents all group activities in the EHR system and in compliance with The Haven’s policies and procedures.
  • Assesses program/curriculum outcomes in a meaningful and objective manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation groups via approved telehealth platforms while ensuring participant privacy, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements.
  • Verify participant identity and location at the start of each session to ensure confidentiality, safety, licensing compliance, and appropriate emergency response if needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to participants to ensure consistent access to telehealth services.
  • Follow telehealth-specific emergency and escalation protocols when safety concerns arise during a virtual session.
  • Implement virtual group management strategies, including setting telehealth-specific group norms, managing disruptions, and maintaining therapeutic boundaries in an online environment.
  • Coordinate with supervisor and treatment regarding telehealth attendance, clinical concerns observed virtually, and follow-up needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation specific to telehealth encounters, including platform used, modality, and any technical issues impacting service delivery.
  • Follow all telehealth policies and protocols as they pertain to the role.
