The IT Telecommunications Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and supporting an organization's voice, data, and network communication systems. This role ensures reliable operation of phone systems, cabling, wireless infrastructure, and related hardware and software by troubleshooting issues, performing upgrades, and coordinating with vendors and internal teams. Duties & Responsibilities : A. Phone: · Layout of phones for new construction. · Moves, adds and changes to phones. · Programming on Nortel 81C i.e. name, authorization codes, class of service, ring, ACD-que. · Certifications on all components of switch and phones. · Trouble shooting problems. · Training end users. · Maintenance on phones and switch. · Voicemail; add and delete mailboxes, change passwords, train end users, trouble shoot problems. · Voicemail; automated answering systems and mail menus. · Call accounting; monitor employee use of phones, create departmental reports, track fraud. · Install new phone lines; take over existing phone lines on newly acquired land. · Record keeping; track location of jacks, pairs, phone numbers and updates monthly. · Planning/working on special events i.e. boxing events, concerts etc. · Other duties as assigned. B. Backbone Wiring & Phone Room Design: · Installation and termination of 50pr, 200r and 300pr cable on 110 blocks. · Wiring; CAT3, CAT5, CAT6. · Termination and certification of CAT3, CAT5 and CAT6. · Wire management, wire moldings, installation of basket tray, racks and termination blocks. · Outside cable splicing, underground cabling, outside plant i.e. lightning protection, pedestals etc. · Installation of all fiber optic cable both indoor and outdoor. · Fusion of fiber optic cables and terminations consisting of ST & SC hot melt connectors. · Certification of fiber with OTDR's and other scanners to verify DB loss for future maintenance. · Installation of all gaming cables i.e. RS422 and fiber duplex. · Installation and termination of all cable TV i.e. RG6, RG11, RG59. · Bury outside cable, conduit and manholes. · Underground cable splicing. C. Alarm: · Install and maintain all equipment. · Monitor alarms and reporting. · Data entry i.e. contacts, instructions, pass codes, panel information. · Quarterly, monthly maintenance cleaning. · Quarterly training of Nation PD. · Design layout for new buildings complete with AutoCAD drawings. · Access control, burglar troubles, and fire troubles. · Input points, programming panels and monitoring equipment. · ABM and Radionics Certifications for on-going updates. D. Surveillance: · Installation and maintenance of digital and analog components i.e. VCR's, quads, monitors, multiplexers etc. · Clean all equipment quarterly. · Adds and layout for new construction. · Train end users.
