About The Position

The Telecommunications Operator for the Police Department at Spring Branch Independent School District is responsible for receiving and directing communications of both normal and emergency nature within the school district. This role involves operating various computer and radio systems, maintaining communication logs, and providing essential information to police and emergency personnel. The operator must manage multiple tasks in a high-stress environment while ensuring effective communication and coordination during emergencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; college preferred.
• Licensed by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• Valid Texas Driver's license.
• No Class B misdemeanor convictions in the last 10 years or Class A misdemeanor convictions ever.
• Successful completion of a security clearance check.
• Broad knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
• Data Entry (Alpha-Numeric) score of 30 wpm with 85% accuracy required.
• Proficient in composition, grammar, spelling, and general writing skills.
• Ability to work varying shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual preferred.
• One year or more professional experience as a public safety dispatcher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and direct communications from various sections of the school district.
• Simultaneously operate various computer and radio systems.
• Monitor building alarm and camera systems.
• Maintain a communications log reflecting the physical location of personnel in the Police Department.
• Provide constant radio and telephone contact for mobile employees after hours.
• Dispatch outside emergency services as needed.
• Answer and prioritize incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Enter and clear warrants and stolen articles from department databases.
• Perform clerical or administrative duties as required.
