About The Position

DataField is seeking a high-level Telecommunications Central Office (CO) Auditor to perform detailed audits inside legacy and modern Central Office environments. This role goes far beyond visual inspections — it requires the ability to validate, reconcile, and prove that what the network claims exists is what’s actually wired, connected, and carrying traffic. If you’re the kind of telecom professional who enjoys tracing circuits, speaking TL1 fluently, and uncovering “ghost” ports that only exist on paper, this role was built for you. What You’ll Be Working With Legacy & Core Network Equipment You’ll audit and validate traffic flow across legacy Digital Cross-Connect Systems (DCS), including: Tellabs 5500 Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) DACS II Western Electric DACS III & IV These systems act as the backbone switchboards for high-capacity circuits, and your job is to verify their accuracy — end to end. Physical Infrastructure DSX-1 & DSX-3 frames (T1 / T3 cross-connects) Fiber Distribution Panels (FDPs) Overhead and underfloor cable routing systems You’ll be physically tracing jumpers, following circuits bay-to-bay, and confirming real-world connectivity in dense CO environments. The Digital Side of the Audit TL1 (Transaction Language 1): You’ll access network elements using TL1 commands to validate port assignments, circuit status, and provisioning data. Familiarity with commands such as ACT, RTRV, ENT, and related syntax is essential. PuTTY / Craft Port Access: You’ll connect locally via serial or USB adapters, configure COM ports and baud rates, and establish direct sessions with CO equipment.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Inside Plant (ISP), working inside telecommunications Central Offices
  • Hands-on knowledge of DCS systems, DSX frames, and fiber distribution
  • Practical experience using TL1 and local device access tools
  • Ability to read, interpret, and reconcile network documentation
  • High attention to detail — accuracy matters
  • Comfortable working independently in live network environments

Responsibilities

  • Data Correlation: Compare logical network records, spreadsheets, and assignment data against physical wiring and port usage
  • Identify discrepancies between software records and real-world connections
  • Manual Circuit Tracing: Physically trace copper and fiber jumpers through racks, frames, and ladder systems
  • Validate end-to-end circuit paths across multiple bays and systems
  • Port & Circuit Auditing: Identify “ghost” circuits (logically assigned but physically absent)
  • Identify unrecorded or misassigned physical connections
  • Document findings clearly and accurately for remediation
  • Reporting & Accuracy: Capture detailed audit results
  • Provide clear documentation that engineering and operations teams can act on
