About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Telecom Services Specialist in our Communications Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will program smartphones and maintain the GWIDS (GETS/WPS Information Distribution System) database, managing user privileges, adding, or removing users, and tracking user locations; collaborate with the Mobile Device Team to resolve technical issues. Interfaces with personnel at all levels, Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA), and telecommunications vendors, ensuring effective working relationships are maintained; maintain inventory records for Division telecommunications equipment, electronic test equipment, and assigned office equipment; update files and databases, including Department cell phone spreadsheets, the cell phone directory, and track equipment upon re-issue or transfer; verify information and update records for surplus property items during turn-in or transfer; assist VSP field staff in locating and identifying subscriber assets for upgrades and installations; collaborate with User Agencies Requirements Committee (UARC) representatives to conduct annual audits of Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS) equipment; and work with Communications and Equipment Repair Technicians to update the Vehicle Asset Checklist and maintain asset records in an automated inventory system.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of hardware, software, and operational procedures related to phone configurations.
  • Skill in operating mobile devices and using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to create use formulas and leverage built-in functions for calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, and extract essential information.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Comprehensive training and experience in wireless technology.
  • Proficient in asset management systems with experience in research and data analysis.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
