About The Position

This position is responsible for the system design of the Transport network including but not limited to DWDM, Packet based systems, Microwave systems and Leased Carrier services in support of Data Center and remote site connectivity for Entergy locations. Individual contributor role responsible for design engineering and project planning/execution in support of Entergy's Telecommunication Transport Network, including communication systems and protocols, creation and maintenance of all associated records, plus other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or relevant technical experience.
  • Registration as licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • 10+ years of directly relevant experience for Senior IT Consultant; 5+ years for IT Consultant.
  • Strong understanding of transport technology offerings and operations support.
  • Knowledge of Packet based Transport, Layer 1/2/3 Networking, and various routing protocols.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with TDM-to-packet conversion highly desired.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-location environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Additional Technical certifications and/or professional licenses are a plus.
  • Design experience with Ciena Packet Transport MPLS product suite is a major plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide telecom engineering support for Entergy's operating area in Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical problems through coordination with Entergy IT personnel, customers, and vendors.
  • Provide expert analysis of proposed infrastructure and network changes regarding need, impact, future capability, and costs.
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans for network expansion and reliability improvements.
  • Serve as a Technical Mentor and SME for junior engineers.
  • Provide Telecom engineering services for over 2,300 sites connected by over 11,000 route miles of fiber cable.
  • Support Entergy's operational companies through project scoping, estimate development, design, and execution of new transport network systems.
  • Interact with various internal customers including Entergy Transmission, Distribution, and IT.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver detailed engineering packages for field installation.
  • Implement changes to infrastructure and systems using Entergy's change management processes.
  • Create and maintain GIS information, hardware records, and service provisioning records.
  • Look for opportunities to improve Entergy Telecom Engineering design standards.
  • Collaborate with fellow engineers and technicians to implement the best solutions.
