The Southern Telecom Foreman is an exempt position responsible for managing and directing telecom crews at jobsites.

  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities listed qualifies.
  • 3 or more years’ experience as a Foreman in the telecom industry.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist, and climb heavy equipment several times throughout the day.
  • Ability to balance at heights up to 6 feet from ground level.
  • Ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job.
  • Frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Working in confined areas.
  • Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
  • Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations, using ladders or crawling, as required.
  • Ability to perform essential tasks in less than favorable conditions (strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, sand, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time).
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
  • Ability to travel up to 2 hours in any direction or weekly travel for further locations if necessary.
  • Undergo and pass pre-employment screening, including a drug test prior to beginning work.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the telecom crews.
  • Read and understand project plans and specification.
  • Reports on work to Senior Project Manager.
  • Knowledge and/or experience on all types of heavy equipment to ensure safe use of equipment and training.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of telecom utility, including excavation, directional boring, cable plowing, aerial specifications and splicing.
  • Inspects work sites throughout construction process to ensure the quality and accuracy of work for potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Monitors crews for organizational structure, sizing, crew mix ratios, and wage compliance in conjunction with Superintendent.
  • Complete required reports (production, personnel time and attendance, vehicle, safety, inspection) on a daily/weekly basis as required.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
