About The Position

TEKsystems is hiring multiple permanent positions for field technicians in Alaska. This position requires significant travel to Alaska on a 2 week on/off schedule. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US for any employer. This position supports a 3 year project but is a permanent/direct placement role with the client company. Candidates must be able to comply with random drug testing. The ideal candidate is a jack of all trades that can work well under pressure and not mind some serious weather conditions. You will know how to fix telecom equipment related to microwave and rf, but also know how to repair a generator, hvac system, and maybe even a door that blew off its hinges. This job is for someone that likes adventure, wants to see remote parts of Alaska, and enjoys fixing things. Telecommunications Technician – Network Operations Overview We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Technician to support the network operations of a carrier class network. This role requires advanced technical expertise in RF system maintenance, microwave radio networks, power generation, fiber optic networks, and general telecommunications infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing microwave, VHF, and UHF radio systems, multiplexing equipment, power generators, AC/DC, and LAN/WAN networks. Experience working in an Operations Control Center (OCC) is highly desirable. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of the telecommunications network, supporting operations and control systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, RF systems, or network infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with microwave, VHF, and UHF radio networks, as well as digital and analog multiplexing.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, LAN/WAN technologies, and network troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, testing, and maintenance is a strong plus.
  • Experience using industry-standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, and T1/E1 testers.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with field personnel and stakeholders.
  • Strong hands on mechanical problem solving skills.
  • Ability to comply with random drug testing program
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 3 months of employment
  • Must be a United States resident
  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (or the ability to obtain within one year).
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to travel to remote sites as needed.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends, and on-call duty as required.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair generators.

Responsibilities

  • Network Operations Monitoring: Independently operate in the field monitoring the telecommunications network, diagnosing issues, and coordinating field responses.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of microwave radio networks, VHF/UHF radios, digital/analog multiplex systems, and networking equipment.
  • Generator, HVAC, and Facilities Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot site power and environmental systems including diesel generators, HVAC, battery plants, and facility infrastructure through scheduled inspections, seasonal readiness work, and rapid response to outages or equipment failures.
  • Testing & Diagnostics: Utilize industry-standard test equipment to troubleshoot and analyze network faults in RF systems, fiber optic networks, and telecommunication circuits.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Remote & Field Work: Travel to remote sites via vehicle and helicopter to perform on-site maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, field technicians, and operations personnel, to resolve complex technical issues.
