The Telecom Electronic Technician II role is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the railroad by managing essential communication systems and devices. This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position, requiring 6 days a week (5 regular working days and one on-call day), and is subject to on-call (24/6), overtime, alternate shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Moderate travel is required for work within the assigned seniority region. Company-paid on-the-job and classroom training, including travel to the BNSF Training Center, is provided.

Requirements

• Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status)
• At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed in the job description
• Ability to report for duty at the designated work location
• Able to work safely in the above working conditions
• Able to work the above shift/hours
• Able to meet the above travel requirements
• Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English
• Able to work indoors primarily at a work bench, equipment bay, installation garage or Radio Frequency (RF) transmission facility
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow
• Possess a valid state issued driver’s license
• Experience doing soldering work
• Able to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic diagrams and schematics
• 2 years minimum of verifiable electronics experience or post-high school training
• Able to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling
• Able to climb on/off equipment
• Able to occasionally work on top of locomotives and other equipment
• Able to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks
• Follow safety policies and procedures; wear the required personal protective equipment
• Must successfully complete company administered Fall Protection Training
• Must pass Electronic Technician II qualification test with 80% or better
• Union membership is with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and union dues are required per union agreement
• Complete a 120-day probationary period

Responsibilities

• Installing, repairing, and maintaining various telecommunications equipment, including radios, digital microwave (MW), and radio frequency (RF) data link equipment
• Install, assemble, repair, adjust, test and maintain wired and wireless systems and devices, automatic equipment identification (AEI) systems, IP networks, VoIP, cameras, Radio Frequency (RF) communications, voice and data communications, front and end train devices, and soldering electrical/electronic components
• Engage in daily safety conversations
• Adhere to safety rules, policies, as well as federal and state regulations, which could include wearing personal protective equipment, responding to concerns, and taking appropriate action in emergencies
