About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The teen development leader is responsible for supporting the teen program in day-to-day general administration of all teen programs including responsibility of all youth, program development and quality control, community relations and collaborations. The teen development leader also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of the Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the Board. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Support youth and teen programming during the school year as well as summer, in both indoor and outdoor settings; creating a culture and climate that supports the social/emotional development of all youth. Nurture children by supporting the Senior Program Director is designing lesson plans that include purposeful programming that develops social-emotional skills, fosters achievement and success, promotes physical activity and team-building, supports academic growth and provides enrichment Oversee enrichment activities and sports/recreational activities such as swim, virtual golf, basketball, futsal, batting cage (baseball/softball), sports clinics, etc. Work with Senior Program Director to identify and execute a minimum of quarterly service-learning/community volunteerism events. Ensure that the engagement with all Y youth is done with good character, encouragement, integrity, patience, positive energy, sense of humor, adaptability and self-control Establish positive rapport with children, parents, volunteers and school personnel (when applicable) in all childcare programs as well as YMCA membership Promote and monitor membership and/or program growth, taking a leadership role in membership, cultivation, and retention. Foster relationships with teens in other Y programming areas Oversee the teen mentoring program, with the guidance of the Teen Director, to become a formal mentor; conducting weekly check-ins with teens and being a positive role model. Represent and promote the Y in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses and governmental entities. Participate in and support the Teen Program with activities and events; including college field trips, career readiness experiences, the line-up of guest speakers and engaging the teens in community service projects. Help to design and implement these programs and activities to ensure high quality and variety. Ensure proper staffing ratios, instruction and success of these programs. Work with Teen Director in collaborating with schools to identify opportunities for enrichment programs that align with academic focuses/goals. Support the compliance and reporting for any program grants. Provide on-going assessments, feedback and evaluation on all youth and teen programs; be open to receive guidance and direction Implement and maintain a positive behavior management system that is clear and aligns with schools, districts and state requirements Handle all emergency incidents and submit proper documentations that may occur in Y programming using mature and sound judgement Support Y special events and fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Experience in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in urban communities and managing an out of school time program or other community-based youth program
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing different levels of staff
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with parents, administrators, staff and students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and organization skills
  • Strong technical skills, with ability to learn new programs quickly as need
  • Belief and commitment to the Y’s mission and values
  • Ability to work at night (and possible weekends with appropriate notice for occasional college visits, career readiness activities or enrichment activities)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 3 months
  • YMCA Leader Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
