About The Position

The Technology Support Specialist is a member of the Instructional Technology team responsible for delivering high-quality, reliable, and consistent technical support across Spotsylvania County Public Schools. This role serves as a first responder to end-user concerns and provides troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of hardware, software, and applications. The Technology Support Specialist may also specialize in specific technical areas to support the instructional program and participate in departmental projects aligned with the goals and objectives of the division.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current (valid, not expired) State Driver's License
  • One (1) year of experience providing IT support to an office or organization, ideally within the Education industry
  • CompTIA A+ certification

Responsibilities

  • Responds to technology support requests from staff, students, and administrators.
  • Documents and tracks support calls through the work order system.
  • Provides technical support and routine maintenance for computers, laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, projectors, smartboards, printers, and other instructional technology equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hardware, including on-site network equipment, or remove devices for repair when necessary.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains approved software and applications; re-images devices as needed and ensures proper functionality.
  • Performs basic to intermediate network troubleshooting.
  • Maintains a high level of expertise in technology platforms used within the school division.
  • Conducts light network administration tasks such as user account management, malware removal, and computer system maintenance.
  • Implements and follows preventive maintenance and cleaning schedules for instructional equipment.
  • Monitors and maintains accurate inventories of hardware and software; updates database listings for schools and the central office as needed.
  • Reports and document equipment damage or loss.
  • Provides support and training to users on technology best practices and usage (e.g., logging in, printing, file management, email).
  • Assists in ordering and tracking technology supplies through school-level budgets.
  • Reports misuse of technology resources in accordance with division policy.
  • Collaborates effectively with instructional technology staff and school personnel to deliver consistent and reliable support services.
