Requirements

  • Knowledge of workstation support in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Experience with Active Directory and authentication systems
  • Ability to lift and transport PC and related IT equipment
  • Strong ability to research, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Advanced understanding of operating system fundamentals and operating system security principles
  • Experience with virtualization, backup, and system monitoring platforms
  • Knowledge of endpoint protection technologies, including antivirus, anti-malware, and file integrity monitoring
  • Basic experience with security event monitoring systems and incident response practices
  • Basic experience with enterprise content management and image ingestion workflow
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, networking fundamentals, and network security concepts
  • Basic experience managing firewalls and intrusion prevention systems (IPS)
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and maintaining positive working relationships
  • Strong commitment to excellent customer service
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in software/database and hardware management. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Or successful completion of 24 hours in computer science coursework or certification and three (3) years of experience in software/database and hardware management

Responsibilities

  • Help Desk & End User Support Serve as the lead technical resource for Help Desk operations, providing advanced troubleshooting, escalation support, and guidance to users.
  • Work directly with KPERS staff to resolve issues clearly, patiently, and professionally—both on-site and remotely.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during Agency Board Meetings and other mission-critical events, helping ensure technology works when it matters most.
  • Server & Application Management Lead the standardized installation, configuration, and lifecycle management of applications and services hosted on physical and virtual servers.
  • Test, validate, and document new technologies and configurations in non-production environments before deployment, supporting a culture of stability and continuous improvement.
  • Standards, Patching & Change Management Ensure server builds and configurations meet KPERS standards, security baselines, and change management requirements.
  • Apply, verify, and document monthly security patches and system updates.
  • Security Software & Monitoring Ensure servers and endpoints are protected with required security tools, including antivirus, anti-malware, and endpoint protection platforms.
  • Monitor alerts, respond appropriately, and coordinate remediation efforts in a timely and collaborative manner.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery Monitor and maintain server, file, and application backups in accordance with KPERS disaster recovery policies.
  • Troubleshoot backup issues, perform restore testing, and serve as a key contributor during bi-annual disaster recovery preparation and testing.
  • Virtualization, Storage & Infrastructure Serve as a technical lead for virtual server environments, storage platforms, and hypervisors, ensuring alignment with KPERS standards, NIST guidance, and vendor best practices.
  • Maintain systems on supported releases, apply updates, and document changes through established processes.
  • Monitoring, Archiving & Governance Support and maintain infrastructure monitoring tools, ensuring alerts are reviewed, documented, and resolved.
  • Lead support of enterprise archiving solutions to protect sensitive data and meet governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage hardware and asset inventories and serve as the primary contact for hardware lifecycle tracking, audits, and end-of-life processes.
  • Endpoint & Deployment Tools Support workstation and endpoint deployment tools, including software distribution, inventory tracking, and license optimization.
  • Documentation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Create clear, accurate system documentation and routine reports.
  • Participate in technology refresh initiatives, cross-functional projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
