Role Overview: GBS Technology Summer Interns join us for 11 weeks in our Philadelphia office. You will have an opportunity to explore potential career paths while working on real-life projects across supporting the Group Benefits Solutions Technology organization and gain the valuable experience essential for you to take the next step in starting your career. Interns will be aligned into one of the four engineering functions below: 1) Gen AI Software Engineer Intern What You’ll Do: The GenAI Intern will support the design, development, and enhancement of cloud-based and AI-enabled applications. This role provides hands-on exposure to modern software engineering practices, AWS cloud services, and Generative AI technologies while working closely with an Agile engineering team. 2) AWS Cloud Operations Engineer The AWS Cloud Operations Engineer will support the lead site reliability engineer in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of AWS-based cloud infrastructure, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and other AWS services. Design, implement, and operate agentic AI systems that autonomously resolve operational tasks across our AWS environment Develop safe-change pipelines (pre-checks, simulation/dry-run, change windows, approval workflows) Establish AI safety guardrails—prompt hardening, action whitelists/blacklists, risk scoring, human-in-the-loop on high-risk ops. Monitor the performance, availability, and security of cloud systems and applications. Collaborate with the DevOps and Cloud Operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues. Assist in configuring and managing cloud monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., AWS CloudWatch). Participate in cloud resource provisioning, cost optimization, and performance tuning activities. Support the documentation of processes, configurations, and best practices for cloud infrastructure management. Contribute to various cloud operations projects, gaining exposure to enterprise-level cloud solutions. 3) Software Engineer Intern Work collaboratively in an Agile team environment where you are encouraged to learn and enhance your technical skills 4) Quality Engineering Intern Support quality engineering activities for GCH features, including Smart Search with AI capabilities. Assist in AI-based test planning and automation for the upcoming Spring upgrade. Collaborate with QE team on functional, API, and performance testing aligned with the Gen AI roadmap. Apply GBS Healthcare domain knowledge to validate business-critical workflows. Document test strategies, execution results, and defect analysis for stakeholder reporting. Across all roles, you’ll collaborate with technology leaders, apply your skills to real-world challenges, and help drive innovation at a company where technology truly matters.

Requirements

  • You must be a rising senior or graduate student studying towards a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cyber Security or other related major with a keen interest in the financial services industry, along with documenting IT solution requirements (business, functional and/or technical), and strong technical knowledge.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Cloud Services (Foundational): AWS Lambda, S tep Functions, EventBridge, Amazon S3. Familiarity with IAM and basic cloud security concepts (preferred)
  • Programming & Development: Java, Python , Understanding of RESTful APIs, scripting, and general cloud development concepts, b asic familiarity with Git and version control workflows
  • Generative AI & AI Foundations: Basic understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), f amiliarity with prompt engineering concepts (e.g., prompt structure, instructions, context), e xposure to LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, or similar platforms). Understanding of embeddings and their use in search or retrieval-based applications (RAG – Retrieval-Augmented Generation). Awareness of AI model limitations, bias, and responsible AI principles
  • GenAI Tooling (Nice to Have): Python libraries such as LangChain or LangGraph (introductory level), Vector databases or search services (e.g., FAISS, OpenSearch, Pinecone – conceptual familiarity), Basic experience working with JSON, prompt templates, and AI configuration files
  • Good communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Familiarity with Cloud hosting environments (AWS)
  • Understanding of APIs, scripting, or general cloud development concepts
  • Foundational programming skills in Java and/or Python
  • Basic knowledge of AWS Services (e.g., Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3)
  • Basic understanding of Quality Engineering principles and software testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and interest in applying them to testing.
  • Knowledge of GBS Healthcare domain workflows.
  • Exposure to automation tools (e.g., Selenium, RestAssured) and scripting languages (Python/Java preferred).
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Computer Science or Information Systems field of study
