About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking a motivated college junior to join our Converged Infrastructure team within the Technology Services organization, based in Minneapolis, MN. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, including compute, storage, virtualization, and cloud technologies. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers, system administrators and architects to support the design, deployment, and optimization of converged systems that power critical business applications across the company. This opportunity is ideal for students passionate about learning and advancing their career while being given exposure to working in infrastructure automation, systems integration, and hardware support. Interns will gain exposure to real-world challenges and contribute to projects that enhance scalability, reliability, and performance of our hybrid IT environment.

Requirements

• Junior status or higher as of May 2026.
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Able to commute to the Minneapolis corporate office.
• Available to work full-time during summer; part-time availability during spring is a plus.

Nice To Haves

• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Completed coursework in systems programming, networking, or cloud computing.
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and maintaining converged infrastructure systems (compute, storage, virtualization).
• Support automation efforts using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to streamline infrastructure operations.
• Participate in hardware lifecycle management, including provisioning, upgrades, and decommissioning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
• Document system configurations, processes, and best practices.
• Contribute to performance analysis and capacity planning initiatives.
