About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University’s University Store is searching for a Technology Sales Consultant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. The Technology Sales Consultant is responsible for delivering comprehensive customer service and sales support across all retail functions of the University Store. This includes managing cash register operations, handling general merchandise, and providing specialized consultation for technology products. The Associate must be adept at working across both the upper and lower levels of the store, maintaining advanced product knowledge, and acting as a departmental liaison to ensure exceptional service to the CMU community. Core responsibilities include: Technology Consultation & Sales Support Advise and consult with customers (in person, via phone, or email) to identify appropriate systems, peripherals, software, and supplies to meet their specific computing needs. Demonstrate advanced product knowledge regarding technology products. Initiate, order, and track merchandise for customers, ensuring timely follow-up regarding status and fulfillment. Act as a departmental liaison for specific product categories or operational areas. Retail Operations and Transaction Management Perform the full range of cash register duties on both levels of the store, including processing sales, returns, and credit card transactions, and acting as a back-up cashier when needed. Maintain accurate records and process all transactions efficiently using the Point of Sale (POS) system. Answer phones, take messages, and assist customers with phone orders. Prepare orders for shipment/delivery and monitor customer flow and activities to ensure efficient service. Perform required opening and closing duties for the store as needed. Merchandising and Inventory Responsible for the lifecycle of stocked items, including receiving, stocking, tagging, hanging, and folding merchandise, and arranging displays. Assist with the organization and proper description/location of a wide array of products on both the upper and lower levels of the store. Assist management with store inventories as required. Customer Service and Team Leadership Always provide first-class customer service, addressing and resolving customer questions and issues effectively. Act as a brand ambassador for the University Store by representing the highest standards of service and professionalism. Effectively work as a Technology Store team member and collaboratively with student employees, including ensuring adherence of student workers to policies and training. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1-3 years of retail customer service experience
  • Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours as needed

  • Excellent oral and written Communication Skills
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of MBS POS system preferred.
  • Knowledge of PC and Apple laptops, desktops, tablets, and peripheral devices preferred.
  • Knowledge regarding and ability to sell the following products preferred: headphones & audio devices, computer adapters, keyboards and mice, external storage
