As the Quality and Technology Chemist at the Bishop site, you will lead key activities regarding quality management system on site and be the primary point of contact for all topics regarding the process chemistry. Aspects to the role are process support and improvement, quality and efficiency. You are expected to monitor and interpret the process and analytical data to assist Process engineers at operating the units at optimum efficiency.You will be instrumental to ensuring that we comply with quality standards per cGMP and FDA regulations. Within your function you strive for improving operations and ensuring implementation of sustainable solutions. You will function as the key contact point regarding process chemistry between corporate functions such as R&D, Technology and site resources such as production/process engineers. Requirements

  • Hold a bachelors degree in Chemistry, Technical Chemistry or related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Possess at least 5 years of experience preferably in the food or pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively, at least 5 years of experience in the chemical industry with profound background in a highly regulated environment, such as GMP.
  • Have experience in complex chemical reactions such as Friedel-Crafts Acylation, HF chemistry or Carbonylation’s.
  • Bring understanding and hands on experience with crystallization or chromatographic processes.
  • Hold background in guiding and collaboration with laboratory technicians around custom synthesis and analytics as GC, HPLC, IC.
  • Possess a track record of implementing efficiency measures and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Have an open mindset for implementing new tools e.g. artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
  • Have demonstrated commitment to sharing knowledge with peers, junior professionals and operational staff.
  • Showing mindset of customers first e.g. direct contact with external customers in audits.
  • Are able to work efficiently and be goal orientated.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the deviation management system for FDA regulated API production.
  • Conducting detailed investigations to identify root causes of deviations in the production processes and in analytical results to implement sustainable solutions in collaboration with the laboratory QA and engineering team.
  • Supporting day-to-day operations on demand for troubleshooting related to process chemistry and separation technologies, such as crystallization and chromatography
  • Conducting custom synthesis of analytical standards according to pharma monography.
  • Supporting audits, such as FDA, ISO and Customer.
  • Understanding of complex chemical reactions, such as Friedel-Crafts Acylation, Hydrogenation and/or Carbonylation reactions to enable you to act as a multiplier to foster process chemistry understanding within peers and managers.
