About The Position

A Technology Foreman is the first line supervisor with crew level responsibility for employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repairs of structured cabling systems, and associated materials and equipment on any type of project; or may be the primary job site supervisor on smaller construction, retrofit, or tenant finish projects. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Must possess all skills of lower rated position.
  • Current Drivers License and must have reliable transportation.
  • High School Graduate, GED or equivalent.
  • Must have 5 or more years of on-the-job communications work experience as well as demonstrated skills at the Installer and Technician levels.
  • Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills needed.
  • Comprehend reading and drawing prints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  • Utilize all power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
  • Operate wire tuggers and hydraulic benders.
  • Dig trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operate all equipment including trenchers, backhoe, and lift trucks in a safe manner.
  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in CECs Safety Policy Handbook, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
  • Operate two handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jack hammers.
  • Operate company vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.
  • Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, both electric and gasoline powered.
  • Work energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in CECs Safety Policy.
  • Install and make branch wire terminations in junction boxes and panel boards.
  • Install and make feeder wire terminations in junction boxes and switch boards.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Lift 51 pounds, routinely.
  • Constantly move about on the feet.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Complete full day assignments involving overhead work.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  • Must be capable of securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed.
  • This position requires flexible work hours.
  • In order to get a project completed on time, this position is often required to work overtime, weekends, and night shifts.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all CEC Low Voltage Technicians and Installers on a Low Voltage Services construction crew or project.
  • Does a working estimate and take-off jointly with the Project Manager.
  • Lays out work for subordinate persons and is jointly responsible with the Project Manager for having material, tools, equipment, information, and appropriate manpower in the proper place in a timely fashion.
  • Assists in establishing work schedules and man-loading charts.
  • Directs subordinate crew in installation of structured cabling systems and related connections and terminations.
  • Monitors work as performed, directs subordinate crews, and schedules work per the pace of the job and other trades.
  • May perform work without being supervised or little instruction.
  • Handles or assists in the disposition of required office correspondence and administrative paperwork such as official forms, daily reports, time sheets/tickets, safety reports, QA/QC.
  • Is responsible for crew or project safety performance.
  • Assures employees are properly trained or instructed in performance of duties to which assigned.
  • Assures compliance with all CEC safety processes and protocols.
  • Investigates or assists in investigation and reporting of any accident or safety incidents involving jobsite employees
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
