As a Software Engineer Principal within PNC's Retail Technology organization, you will be based in Denver, CO, Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, Birmingham, AL, or Cleveland, OH. Due to the nature of this position we are seeking passionate Software Engineers. Candidates should have experience with the following: - Core Banking Domain SME & Technical Leadership Serve as a subject matter expert for core banking platforms and services, providing deep technical and domain guidance on account processing, transactions, customer data, and regulatory constraints. Lead technical knowledge-sharing sessions, design reviews, and architectural discussions with peer SMEs to align on best practices, patterns, and long‑term platform direction. - Architecture, Design Governance & Engineering Standards Drive solution architecture and design decisions for Java/Spring Boot microservices and MongoDB-based systems, ensuring scalability, resilience, data integrity, and security across core banking capabilities. Establish and influence engineering standards, API contracts, and deployment patterns while mentoring engineers and partnering with other principal-level SMEs to ensure consistent implementation across teams. Leverages technical knowledge and industry experience to design, build and maintain technology solutions. Develops software components and hardware for new and emerging technology projects; aligns these with business strategies and objectives. Consults junior staff regarding complex issues and best practices. Provides a systematic analysis on the most complex client requirements within the traceability framework and resolves any functional problems encountered. Oversees the quality of complex project deliverables while ensuring that they are in compliance with relevant standards and processes. Requirements

Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities for a role.
Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience.
Specific certifications are often required.
