About The Position

Working under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Law Library, the Technology and Research Librarian leads efforts to integrate relevant technologies into the research, information access, and teaching missions of the Law Library and the School of Law. As a core member of the reference team, the Technology and Research Librarian provides high-quality research and instructional support. The Librarian also helps develop and teach in the 1L Legal Research curriculum and participates in the Law Library’s outreach initiatives, including workshops, trainings, and social media. Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited school is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited school or a demonstrated interest in law librarianship is preferred.
  • One to five years of relevant post-J.D. legal experience, or equivalent professional experience, is preferred.
  • Experience teaching legal research or teaching in a higher-education setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and other current and emerging technologies relating to legal research and legal practice.
  • Familiarity with library, course, and information management platforms, such as LibApps, Canvas, Digital Commons, and Pure.
  • Commitment to a high level of library service to faculty and students in a Law School environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high-level insights and significant contributions to the Law Library’s online presence and services, including our Scholarly Commons institutional repository, W&L Law Journal Rankings, faculty scholarship profiles, website, blog, and social media accounts.
  • Teaches two sections of our one-credit Legal Research course to first-year law students.
  • Cooperates with internal and external units to provide formal and informal research instruction, including workshops, guest lectures, consultations, and trainings.
  • Serves as a member of the Law Library’s reference team, providing excellent research and instructional services to all library users and collegial support for team members.
  • Hires and supervises a team of student research assistants to support faculty research projects.
  • Develops tools, including LibGuides, to help patrons access and use Law Library and related resources.
  • Assists with account creation, maintenance, and user support for Law Library databases and research platforms.
  • In collaboration with other librarians, evaluates print materials, electronic collections, and technology tools, and makes recommendations for library acquisition and deselection.
  • Engages in professional development and continuing education through state, regional, and national library associations.
  • Serves on Law Library, Law School, and University committees as appointed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
