About The Position

The Technologist will perform a variety of duties to prepare materials used in science classrooms. These duties include but are not limited to: inoculating microorganisms, preparing culture media, sterilizing glassware /instruments, assembling components into kits, performing quality checks, maintaining production levels, fulfillment of customer orders, and providing technical support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 6 to 12 months experience working in a biology related laboratory and familiarity with equipment such as autoclave, laminar flow hood, automated dispenser, Bunsen burner, incubator, pipettes, and digital balances preferred.
  • Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a biological science with lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and inoculates cultures to ensure sufficient inventory for orders. Cultures include but are not limited to algae, bacteria, fungi, plant tissue culture, protozoa, viruses, parasites, and potential pathogens.
  • Monitors quality of cultures and media to maintain sterility and purity. Informs Manager/Lab Coordinator of any issues with quality or quantity.
  • Assists in the timely fulfillment of customer orders with high-quality products.
  • Assists Manager/Laboratory Coordinator in training and cross-training.
  • Communicates with Technical Support, Customer Service, or customers by phone or email to answer technical questions, resolve problems, and offer advice on proper use of materials.
  • Assists Manager/Laboratory Coordinator in reviews of written instructions such as training documents, standard operating procedures/protocols, or activities to accompany certain product lines during periodic updates or trouble-shooting.
  • Assists Manager/Laboratory Coordinator with monitoring inventory of certain products, packaging materials, production supplies, and instructions; communicates with Manager/Laboratory Coordinator to help maintain and control inventory.
  • Receives, inspects, and puts up stock, fills out receiving reports.
  • May work with company systems such as JDE/MRP to check stock, reconcile inventory, review/print reports, check customer order status, generate and complete work orders and transfers, etc.
  • Sets up, adjusts, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as Bunsen burner, automatic pipet, automatic dispenser, autoclave, laminar flow hood, bottle washer, water bath, electronic balance or scales, microscope, packing tape machine, and other equipment.
  • Combines various components to be sold as kits or sets.
  • Cleans and sterilizes glassware and laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • The Live Biology Group has seasonal variation in labor needs. As a result, employees ae expected to help in other areas as needed. Live Biology is a living materials, laboratory, and manufacturing facility. Employees may be asked to help in areas with living materials, with outside field or collecting work, and in various laboratory work areas.
  • Some evening, holiday, and weekend work may be required.
