About The Position

The MRI Technologist position in Lombard is a full-time role requiring 40 hours of work per week. The hours are varied, with shifts from Monday to Friday either from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, or 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, the role requires working two weekend days per month from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with holiday and travel as needed. The position involves performing a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures under the direction of a radiologist, ensuring a positive imaging environment for patients, and acting as a liaison between patients and the radiologist.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited education program in MRI required.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.
  • Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100 lbs.
  • Adequate eyesight to observe patient conditions and read MRI computer screens.
  • Sufficient hearing to respond to patient inquiries and communicate with personnel.
  • Ability to perform multi-tasks simultaneously and maintain composure under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
  • Ensures proper MRI safety standards are met and that all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of the scan room.
  • Explains correct emergency shutdown procedures and demonstrates fire and safety evacuations.
  • Checks patient transfer/transport equipment to ensure compliance with safe operational standards.
  • Operates required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI protocols.
  • Completes necessary protocolling tasks and performs ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.
  • Properly identifies patients using three unique identifiers and introduces themselves using name and role title.
  • Explains procedures in layman's terms using educational/informational aids when necessary.
  • Verifies completion of MRI screening forms and validates provided information.
  • Starts IV access according to standard procedure and injects media under the direction of a physician.
  • Prepares and positions patients for procedures using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image.
