About The Position

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Clinical Microbiology Lab is currently seeking an experienced Microbiology Technologist III for their Translation Laboratory and will be responsible for all laboratory operations. We're taking ambitious steps to redefine what's possible in Laboratory Medicine! Our innovative clinical laboratories provide sophisticated technology and automated equipment that allow our teams to get to answers faster and more efficiently, with a strong emphasis on applied and translational research. We are committed to the growth and advancement of the department and fully support the active collaboration of scientists, clinicians, and industry guides to develop next-generation laboratory methods. MSK is dedicated to providing diverse educational opportunities to develop further the skills and ambitions of our medical technologists, laboratory managers, and laboratory directors. It's an exciting time for the Laboratory Medicine Department as many of our teams have recently moved into our new innovative laboratory medicine facility on East 64th Street! Our new Laboratory Medicine Building improves operational efficiency, allowing our Laboratory Medicine team to provide test results more quickly and reduce the amount of blood needed from a patient to generate those results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences required.
  • 4+ years of proven experience required; Microbiology experience preferred.
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required.
  • ASCP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Laboratory Directors on the set-up and design of new assays, selection of analytical methods, and validation.
  • Establish and optimize operational protocols.
  • Perform new assays independently.
  • Collect data, document completely, and validate new method/assay.
  • Apply statistical methods.
  • Evaluate data results; summarize data; prepare final report.
  • Present documentation to next level.
  • Work with vendor technical support.
  • Manage documentation; assimilate findings.
  • Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of new test methodologies.
  • Participate in advanced training.
  • Educate/train staff on new process/method/equipment.
  • Develop/write/update new test/assay SOP.
  • Create competency for new test.
  • Evaluate and document competency of lab staff in collaboration with lab management.
