About The Position

Under general direction, the Technologist III provides advanced technical expertise in machining and advanced manufacturing systems while supporting laboratory operations, safety compliance, and professional shop standards. This position applies engineering and manufacturing principles to solve complex technical problems and supports workforce training, applied research, and industry engagement activities within advanced manufacturing laboratory environments. The role blends technical engineering support with operational stewardship of laboratory and shop spaces to ensure safe, efficient, and industry-aligned learning and research environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of related experience
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, and design.
  • Knowledge of mathematical formulas and computations and data gathering methods.
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

Responsibilities

  • Advanced Manufacturing Technical Support Provide technical expertise in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex engineering, manufacturing, and equipment-related problems.
  • Utilize engineering principles in the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of technical systems, lab processes, and training environments.
  • Create and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct technical research, data collection, and reporting to support engineering activities and workforce development initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, machining, prototyping, automation, instrumentation, and manufacturing systems.
  • Laboratory Operations & Equipment Stewardship Maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and technical assets in proper operating condition across Workforce Development laboratories.
  • Support installation, setup, configuration, and commissioning of new equipment and training environments.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and vendor service support.
  • Maintain inventory awareness for tooling, materials, and equipment components.
  • Support efficient utilization of laboratory space, equipment, and technical workflows.
  • Maintain SOPs, safety documentation, and quality assurance records.
  • Ensure adherence to TEES, TAMUS, and laboratory safety policies and procedures.
  • Support readiness of laboratories for demonstrations, workforce programs, and applied engineering activities.
  • Training, Workforce & Student Support Assist with preparation and execution of technical training activities, demonstrations, and applied learning environments.
  • Support development and delivery of equipment-based training across machining, fabrication, prototyping, automation, and advanced manufacturing disciplines.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to students, trainees, and staff in the use of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Mentor students on equipment use, safety practices, and technical procedures.
  • Provide functional oversight of student workers supporting laboratory operations, including task coordination and scheduling support.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work cross-functionally with faculty, project managers, workforce teams, and industry partners.
  • Support planning, scheduling, and execution of multiple technical initiatives and projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes, equipment capability, and training delivery infrastructure.
