About The Position

MAJOR FUNCTION: Perform diagnostic testing on patient samples and analyze test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. Ensure operation of laboratory instrumentation by calibrating;pleting preventive maintenance requirements; troubleshooting malfunctions; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Perform, evaluate, and record quality control and institute corrective action as appropriate. Take part in proficiency sample testing, when appropriate. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Perform any other duties necessary to run an efficient and effective laboratory. Excellent written and verbalmunication skills required. QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field OR For HEW/HHS - High school graduate or equivalent with 50-week military training as Medical Lab Specialist OR Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory or Clinical Laboratory training program. 1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience preferred For HEW/HHS - 15 years clinical laboratory experience required. Certification: ASCP, MLS or equivalent level eligible at date of hire required. HEW/HHS certification required as a technologist under the revised Medicare/CLIA '67 regulations (42 CFR 493.1433) published on March 14, 1990 (55 FR 9538). Requirements
