About The Position

The TDL teacher directly addresses how to become independent at home and self-care to help them find gainful employment improving their quality of life. Specific teaching assignments will be individualized, and change based on the needs of each consumer. Teachers work in teams to provide an interdisciplinary comprehensive training experience for all students at the DSB Career and Training Center both virtually and in-person. • Provide focused instruction aligned with the consumer's Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). • Ability to teach students how to care for themselves and live independently. • Uses technologies for labeling, dressing, organizing, and eating and teach adaptive techniques for cleaning, laundry, eating, grooming, and dressing for their profession. • Differentiate instructional strategies and content to effectively teach individuals who have lost vision from a wide variety of backgrounds and with various learning styles and readiness levels. • Complete assessments and develop lesson plans through lectures, tactile, auditory, visual demonstrations, fieldtrips, remote, and virtual learning experiences for up to 4 assigned students enrolled in the TDL class. • Compose verbal and timely written reports with creating and /or administering effective assessments, and goalsetting of student’s progress in the case management system. • Stay abreast of current trends, new products, and new adaptive equipment for the TDL area, to include costs and availability. • Work collaboratively with Center teachers and staff to assist consumers with achieving their academic or professional goals. • Responsible for participating on the staff team which includes assisting during mealtimes, attending planning meetings, and attending in-service trainings. • Develop competencies across subject areas to assist with coverage during staff absences and co-teach with other faculty to offer an interdisciplinary comprehensive learning experience for students remotely and in person. • Work with persons with service animals

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching Techniques of Daily Living Skills for visually impaired students to reach their goals of independence, education, or employment.
  • Knowledge and experience in effective instructional strategies teaching specialized skills for teens and adults who are visually impaired, blind, deafblind, and may have other secondary disabilities.
  • Some experience working with individuals with visual impairments.
