About The Position

The POS/IT Hardware Technician at DataMax Services, Inc. is responsible for testing, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of POS equipment and components. This role involves maintaining repair history databases, assembling and staging POS registers, and evaluating vendor equipment orders. The technician will also prepare technical documents and assist in special projects related to equipment refresh efforts.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least a two-year certificate from an accredited program in Electronics Technology, Computer Maintenance Technology, or other related fields at a junior college or technical school.
  • Preferred CompTIA A+ certification.
  • IBM, NCR, HP, or similar certifications strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-years prior work experience with retail IT hardware preferred.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining POS hardware preferred.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb on ladders, drag wooden pallets, and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds on an infrequent, as needed basis.

  • Working knowledge of the operational details of the hardware and software of POS hardware and PC systems.
  • Possess proficient analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Point of Sale Systems, Electronic Cash Registers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Test and diagnose problems on a broad range of POS equipment and component parts.
  • Conduct repairs to POS hardware and return them to full operating condition in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain repair history databases using work order management software as part of the repair work responsibilities.
  • Assemble, stage, and image POS registers as needed for new store rollouts or customer inventory, including wireless and mobile devices.
  • Evaluate equipment orders from vendors, including processing items remaining under warranty.
  • Properly record and dispose of defective or end-of-life equipment and component parts.
  • Palletize and de-palletize equipment as needed.
  • Work on special projects and equipment refresh efforts as needed.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of technical documents and procedures such as installations, hard-drive or memory replacements, equipment exchanges, etc.
