About The Position

The Technician-Unit Support plays a vital role in providing a combination of direct patient care and clerical support within the Adult Coronary Critical Care Unit. Under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse, the technician assists with patient care activities, maintains a clean and safe environment, and supports unit operations. This role also involves providing information and assistance to physicians, patients, families, and staff, ensuring efficient unit functionality.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification may be required.
• Previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of IU Health PCA education program required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures.
• Understanding of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

Nice To Haves

• completion of IU Health PCA education program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct patient care activities as directed by the Clinical Nurse.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment within the unit.
• Provide information, directions, and assistance to physicians, patients, families, vendors, and visitors.
• Schedule tests, procedures, and coordinate patient flow as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records, sign patients in and out of the unit, and manage documentation.
• Order, receive, and deliver equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May perform continuous patient observation, including suicide prevention.
• Adhere to infection control standards and procedures.
• Support unit operations with clerical duties, including data entry and communication.
