About The Position

This position provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties within the Adult Surgical Step-down Unit. The technician administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team. Key responsibilities include ensuring a clean and orderly patient environment, providing information and assistance to various stakeholders (physicians, patients, families, customers, vendors), and potentially scheduling tests, maintaining patient records, and managing patient sign-ins/outs. The role may also involve ordering, receiving, and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team, and providing continuous observation, including for suicide prevention.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
  • Knowledge of principles of infection control
  • Basic computer skills
  • May be required to complete Unit Secretary training program
