Demonstrates proficiency and technical expertise in regulated and cross-functional capacity. Under general supervision, performs general upkeep and handling of research and laboratory systems. Serves as a technical team member by providing support to assigned department. Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. Ability to design, plan, organize and implement tasks within an allotted timeframe. Ability to carry out daily activities in the vivarium, proficient in humane animal handling skills, dosing by oral gavage, intravenous, and intraperitoneal routes, bleeding, assessing health, and performing humane euthanasia. The candidate will be required to work with potentially hazardous compounds, using appropriate precautions for the safety of the candidate and co-workers, and to prepare dosing formulations. Must be able to concisely communicate key issues to stakeholders, interact and communicate effectively with peers, animal husbandry staff, veterinary staff, toxicologists, and collaborating scientists. Once the training period is completed, the candidate will be required to work independently on holidays and on the weekend on an as needed basis. The ideal candidate will also have postmortem examination (necropsy) experience. There are opportunities for expanding the candidate’s responsibilities beyond those identified as core job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and at least 3 year's experience in a laboratory setting
  • Technical training completion/certification or Associates degree may substitute for up to 2 years of required experience
  • Good communication skills and the ability to relay messages to management
  • Good working knowledge of MSWord; Excel Spreadsheets, word processing, and email and knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to take initiative to handle basic issues autonomously and working with team member for the more complex issues.
