About The Position

The Technician, Park Operations position is responsible for the care, maintenance, repair, and preparation of parks, fields, and other recreation areas.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check, MVR, drug test, and subsequent mandatory checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Turf grass management.
  • Knowledge of: Irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of: Related OSHA safety standards, current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) procedures, bloodborne pathogens protocols, proper use, and application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Skill and Ability to: Operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and related equipment in a skilled and safe manner.
  • Skill and Ability to: Apply fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides safely and effectively.
  • Skill and Ability to: Work independently with limited supervision or collaborate with a team.
  • Skill and Ability to: Follow and perform written and oral communication.
  • Skill and Ability to: Communicate and coordinate Parks Operations activities to staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Skill and Ability to: Attend training courses to stay informed of technical and operational trends.
  • Skill and Ability to: Perform all duties with safety as a top priority.

  • Experience operating equipment used for park maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of all parks and recreational areas.
  • Maintain facility restrooms.
  • Operate park maintenance equipment.
  • Monitor parks and recreational areas to determine maintenance needs.
  • Assist with athletic field preparation.
  • Assist with maintenance of the irrigation systems.
  • Assist with fertilizing, weed management, and pest control.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding parks and recreational areas.
  • Assist with set-up and coordination of special events.
  • Perform building maintenance, custodial tasks, and snow removal duties.
  • Assist with building maintenance and repairs.
