Note: benefits eligibility may be based on employment status, tenure, location, or other factors Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly Location: Milwaukee, WI Pay Range: $21-$25/hour, depending on experience Job Summary: The DC Power Technician L2 installs, upgrades, and removes communications power equipment, including rectifiers, batteries, and power cabinets. This role assists with routing and securing power, ground, and alarm cabling and helps with the lugging and termination of power cables and the infrastructure construction for DC power systems. This technician also supports project coordination and may interface with customers and field representatives to monitor and ensure all installation requirements are met.

  • Install DC power equipment, including rectifiers, UPS units, and battery systems in accordance with customer and manufacturer specifications under the direction of L3 technicians or leads.
  • Support DC power plant upgrades and replacements related to primary and secondary distribution equipment including PBD’s, BDFB’s, BDCBB’s, inverters & converters, with routine supervision.
  • Assist with installing battery plants (24VDC, 48VDC, 130VDC and UPS) by following detailed specifications and developing the ability to interpret technical documentation.
  • Install ironwork and cable rack to required work standards while building knowledge of zone 4 environment requirements.
  • Route, lace, and secure power and ground cabling, and assist with lug crimping and terminations for DC power installations and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting, testing, and inspection of all types of DC power systems, including rectifiers, UPS units, and batteries, under supervision.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks in accordance with company and customer guidelines.
  • Follow all company policies and safety procedures in alignment with OSHA requirements to support a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
  • Verify materials lists and equipment needs for accuracy with guidance from L3 technicians or Leads.
  • Carry out related work activities as directed by the Lead installer.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the installation, replacement, and maintenance of battery plants (VRLA, Wet Cells, NiCADs, and alternative battery systems) under the guidance of L3 Technicians or Leads.
  • Working knowledge of BDFB/BDCBB equipment and participation in battery growth and power distribution installations.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks accurately and efficiently with regular oversight, following direction from senior technicians and project leads.
  • Consistently operates in compliance with all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and published customer and company guidelines.
  • Maintains awareness of changing work conditions and equipment usage to help support safe and efficient shop, department, or field operations.
  • Developing ability to assess basic site conditions—including environmental temperature and general operating environment—with supervision.
  • Emerging skills in reading and interpreting electrical line diagrams, blueprints, and installation documentation.
  • Foundational understanding of UPS systems, Ohm’s law, and basic electro-chemical battery theory to support troubleshooting and installation work.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hands-on UPS and DC battery services installing -48V and +24V standalone power systems.
  • Frequent travel, which may include extended periods, including several consecutive weeks, with minimal advance notice.
  • Shift work may be required based on operational needs, including overnight hours during maintenance windows and overtime as needed .
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work with and around electrical wires and components and/or ESD products.
  • Ability to work remotely at construction or installation sites.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in an electrical or engineering-related field is preferred; relevant military training may be considered in lieu of formal education.
