About The Position

This position is responsible for executing testing procedures, operating specialized testing equipment, and supporting manufacturing demonstrations within X-energy Engineering Test Facilities. The role will assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of testing equipment in a non-nuclear facility for testing technologies, systems, structures, and components (SSCs) being developed for eventual use in high temperature gas-cooled reactor applications. The technician will follow established safety protocols, collect and document test data, maintain industrial equipment, and support operations during critical test campaigns. Work to be conducted in general office space (on-site/remotely via technology) and designated facility laboratory areas. While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to talk, hear, walk, and move consistently throughout the day. May be subject to high temperatures, noises, and vibrations from generating equipment. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. May be subject to working at heights of up to 20-25 feet. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds. May be required to work in cramped spaces.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical field OR a combination of education, military training (e.g., US Navy Nuclear Power Program), technical certifications, and relevant experience in lieu of an associate's degree.
  • Level IV: Typically, ten years of work experience.
  • Level V: Typically, fifteen years of work experience.
  • Eight years of direct experience in an industrial testing, manufacturing, or maintenance role, including:
  • Experience operating industrial equipment or test apparatus.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems.
  • Experience following technical procedures and work control processes including lockout/tagout.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve routine equipment and test issues independently
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and procedures.
  • Experience collecting, recording, and organizing technical data and maintaining accurate records.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety practices, emergency procedures, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work with hand tools and basic machine shop equipment needed for test setup and minor fabrication.
  • Experience with basic computer applications and electronic data collection systems.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Willingness to obtain relevant certifications for equipment operation (e.g., crane operation, forklift, pressure systems) if not already certified.

Responsibilities

  • Execute test procedures for graphite, metallic, and electro-mechanical components according to established protocols and quality standards.
  • Set up and configure test equipment including high-temperature and high-pressure systems under the guidance of test engineers.
  • Operate specialized testing equipment and custom-built test rigs while maintaining strict adherence to operating procedures.
  • Support material handling operations using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment for moving test articles and assemblies.
  • Monitor test parameters, collect and record test data, and document observations during test execution using data acquisition systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Assist with the fabrication, assembly, and integration of test articles and prototype components.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and spare parts, notifying management when replenishment is needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout protocols, and compliance with pressure vessel safety standards.
  • Assist with facility upgrades, equipment installations, and system modifications as directed.
  • Participate in training programs to maintain proficiency with new equipment and testing procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of industrial facility spaces and equipment.
  • Assist more experienced technicians with basic test setup and data collection tasks while developing foundational skills.
  • Work to support operations during critical test campaigns as required.
  • Work to be conducted in general office space (on-site) and designated facility laboratory areas.
